You are here:  SPP / Rules of the Road

The following Rules of the Road apply to data from Space Plasma Environment and Radio Science (SPEARS) instruments.

IRIS (Kilpisjärvi) Imaging Riometer

Due to reduced funding we regret that we are unable to routinely provide validated data. We are however happy to process the data on a collaborative basis. For all publications arising from such collaborative works we expect an invitation of authorship to the project PI (Prof. F. Honary) and any Lancaster researchers involved.

The acknowledgement on published papers should state:
The data originated from the Imaging Riometer for Ionospheric Studies (IRIS), operated by the Space Plasma Environment and Radio Science (SPEARS) group, Department of Physics, Lancaster University (UK) in collaboration with the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory.

Data users are not entitled to distribute data to third parties outside their own research teams without requesting permission from Prof. F. Honary. Similarly, IRIS data should not become part of a distributed database without permission first being sought.

ARIES (Ramfjord) Imaging Riometer

Due to reduced funding we regret that we are unable to routinely provide validated data. We are however happy to process the data on a collaborative basis. For all publications arising from such collaborative works we expect an invitation of authorship to the project PI (Prof. F. Honary) and any Lancaster researchers involved.

The acknowledgement on published papers should state:
The data originated from the Advanced Rio-Imaging Experiment in Scandinavia (ARIES), operated by the Department of Communications Systems at Lancaster University (UK) and funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).

Data users are not entitled to distribute data to third parties outside their own research teams without requesting permission from Prof. F. Honary. Similarly, IRIS data should not become part of a distributed database without permission first being sought.

SAMNET magnetometers

Due to reduced funding we regret that we are unable to routinely provide validated data. We are however happy to process the data on a collaborative basis. For all publications arising from such collaborative works we expect an invitation of authorship to the project PI (Prof. F. Honary) and any Lancaster researchers involved.

Data users are not entitled to distribute data to third parties outside their own research teams without requesting permission from Prof. F. Honary. Similarly, SAMNET data should not become part of a distributed database without permission first being sought.

All publications should carry the acknowledgement:
The Sub-Auroral Magnetometer Network data (SAMNET) is operated by the Space Plasma Environment and Radio Science (SPEARS) group, Department of Physics, Lancaster University.

Data from the IMAGE stations Kilpisjärvi, Hankasalmi, Oulujärvi, Uppsala and Nurmijärvi (after 2002) data is provided courtesy of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the University of Oulu and the Geological Survey of Sweden. This should be acknowledged if used in any publication.

Lerwick, Hartland and Eskdalemuir data is provided courtesy of the British Geological Survey. This should be acknowledged if used in any publication.
