You are here:  SPP / IRIS / Utilities / Scintillation Calculator

This scintillation calculator returns the times and beams in which Cassiopeia is likely to cause scintillation for the specified day. Note that while Cassiopeia is the largest source of scintillation Cygnus is also responsible, with a different set of times and beams affected. It is planned to extend the calculator to work for Cygnus. These times are only valid for Kilpisjärvi.

If you are planning a heating campaign you should definitely check with the calculator to see if Cassiopeia is likely to affect IRIS.

Please note that the start and end times may not agree precisely. The IRIS beam edges are not sharply-defined, so it is not possible to provide exact times for which Cassiopeia enters and leaves the beams.
