During active periods the sun may produce powerful radio emissions. The radio emissions are more prevalent near solar maximum. Solar radio emissions are seen only during daylight hours. In Kilpisjärvi solar noon is approximately 10:37 UT (depending upon time of year).

Solar radio emissions - absorption plot

The increase in received power from solar radio emissions is seen in the absorption plot as negative values with a large magnitude.

Solar radio emissions - keogram

The keogram has a fixed lower limit of 0 dB, so negative absorption levels appear as dark blue stripes.
